I have a habit of playing with my food.

From cookbooks and magazine covers to product photography and chef portraits, for nearly 10 years now, I have aimed my camera at the culinary universe with complete reverence and wonder. I’ve been a devoted lover of cooking, food, and all that those concepts entail from an early age, and I take great pride in documenting both my own cooking and recipes (via my cooking blog) and those of others.

I love pulling and squeezing out a food concept - be it a recipe, ingredient, or culinary space - to see what all I can wring from it. To me, there may be no better vehicle for storytelling; no better catalyst for conversation, communication, and understanding than food. As such, it makes one of the most fascinating muses around, and my personal journey as a food photographer and stylist is ever winding as I discover new and unusual ways to document all things food.

I teach food photography workshops and one-on-one classes and in these sessions, I tell students that there is no such thing as perfection when it comes to food photography. There is much freedom to be found in this revelation, and it is only in the embracing of the gorgeous imperfections - the beautifully unique - that our plates and palates can be truly free, aesthetically speaking. Perfection, it seems, is wholly overrated. Give me your thorns and your bruises, your partially eaten cakes and your berry-stained plates. I like my food photography real, and I like it a little playful. Dreamy and delicious.
